Cheap And Easy Cool Down By Nutmeg101 on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
After moving from the south to New England, I needed help adapting to no central a/c. We bought several of these fans to place throughout our home. They have done a great job. There are only a few short weeks in the summer that window a/c units are actually needed. The rest of the time, these fans work wonderfully.
The units are dual fan, enegry saving, and simple to install/use. Each fan can be set for intake or exhaust which helps with airflow. in larger rooms, we set them up across the room from each other with one unit set totally on intake and the other set on exhaust to maximize the crossbreeze.
Also, they have a built in thermostat so when the temp drops below the setting, it shuts off. Or, you have the option to just set them to hi or low and override the thermostat.
We have been very happy with these units, and will probably be buying a couple more.
Holmes Window Fan (HAWF2043) Purchased at: Wal-Mart Price: $20.00

I wanted one of these really badly for the house I lived in during grad school, but couldn't find one that would fit the window (it was an older house). But I know that they really do work well. Thanks!
I like that it automatically shuts itself off and on when it realizes it's either above or below the set temperature. How cool! :o) I moved from Michigan down to Florida so I am in love with my central air.
No air conditioning, I shudder at the thought! Although I did not have it in my college dorm, I was young then:0) Now it is a needed item!
I love fans, all fans, I am always so hot. I couldn't live without my ac or my cieling fans.
I like the idea of the thermostat. I have never heard of that for a fan but think its a great idea. Thanks for the great information.
I don't think I could make it with no air conditioning. This seems to have a lot of nice features and that is a good price for it as well.
Wow, what a great price for these--I'll be on the lookout when our temps start to rise. I also like the thermostat feature.
I like how you create a breeze in the room utilizing two units at once, that would feel great in the summer.
great product especially during summer (like now).. v!
These fans sound great. I too am a transplanted southerner and also find that I don't even need a fan but a few times during the summer but these would certainly beat lugging around a pedastal fan.
