Chrysanthemum
By Rae777 onAn excellent book, by Kevin Henkes, for 4 to 8 year olds. Its about a mouse going to school and feeling like an outcastbecause of her name Chrysanthemum. I have used this in the classroom to teach kindergarten students a lesson on not making fun of other children. I also use it to makestudents understand how it feels to be made to feel different. Many different activities can be done with this book such as having the children cut out a heart and then fold it each time Chrysanthemum is made to feel sad. Then you have the students unfold it and see how many time Chrysanthemum was made to feel sad. This book can also be taken across curriculum to teach math such as making a graph to see who has the longest name. This book is an absolute treasure. Kevin Henkes is a very talented author.

I haven't heard of this book but it sounds like a gem! Thanks for sharing.
I love the additional learning applications that you suggested, sounds like a great story.
We love this book! I bought it for my teen when she was little. We read it so many times she memorized it and "read" it to me. Now I read it to my little one.
Sounds like a really good book for teaching a variety of lessons. My son is a tad too young, but I think this book is going on to my wish list! Thanks for sharing!
I love for my children to hear and read books that teach valuable lessons.
A nice activity book for children, thanks for sharing.
Sounds like a great book especially if teaches kids not to make fun of others. That has always been a problem and I believe it is even a bigger problem these days. Thanks for sharing.
This is a loving story that teaches tolerance and compassion. I read it vto my daughter when she was small, and then to my boys. Thank you for spotlighting this excellent children's book.
There is a valuable lesson in this book. I know how it felt when I was little and felt 'different' from the other children.
I never heard of this book before, but it sounds like a really great book for teaching young children about teasing. I love those kind of books, my son is too old for it now though.
