Claritin

Claritin is a once persciption, now over the counter allergy medication that is frequently used here in the US by a variety of people. Claritin is available to take every twelve or twenty four hours, and I personally use the 24 hour one. Keep in mind that like most allergy medications, these will dry you out. Make sure to have some water available to stay plenty hydrated, I know because I don't always remember. I have found that this medication helps me when I am truly congested and can't breathe out of my nose when the allergen is dander or animal hair. For me, it does not work well for seasonal/outside allergies. Also, you will find that you need to take this medication the night before, so that it has time to get into your system before you start the next day. When I waited till the morning, it was not quite as affective.
