Cobra 2-Way Radios
By Kakoa onI bought these Cobra 2-way radios for my hubby one year for Christmas. He wanted something he could take with him hunting that has a good range and was not too big. These seemed like they would be perfect, but they did not end up measuring up to what they claimed to be.
These radios come with a charging stand. This is great because you don't have to worry about separate charging cords. It provides a great, safe way to store them too. The overall look of these radios are very nice. From the base to the radios themselves, it has a very smooth, curvy look. They fit your hand very nicely and are very light weight.
These radios are VERY durable! They have taken a lot of abuse in the years that we have had them. They take the droppings, bangings, and weather conditions very well. My hubby's friend even dropped one in a shallow creek once! He had to climb down the tree he was in before he could fish it out. Even after being in the water for about 2 minutes it worked like nothing had happened.
Where this product is disappointing is in the range. It says you can get clear reception up to 5 miles. You can get no where near that far! I would say, for clear enough reception to understand what the other person is saying, you have to be within about 1 and a half miles. After that the static is too bad to hear or you just can't talk at all. The "call" button that sends a noise to the other radio will work about 3-4 miles away, but what good does that do if you can't talk.

I think these are pretty good radios but if the package says the range is 5 miles and they only get 1- 1/2 miles....somebody needs to contact the company so they can either fix it or change the wording to be truthful. Hopefully your hubby is only 1 mile away from the other person and they can hear each other! Nice style and good description!
Wow, there is a huge difference between 1.5 miles and 5 miles! I would be upset about this...but then it really makes me made when companies give such blatant misinformation.
Stuff like this always depends on terrain and so many other factors. On a flat desert, I'll be you can get 5 miles! I know, that's not helpful... Good info.
Sorry the range on these was not what it claimed to be. I would think if you were out in the woods, having one that actually worked for the 5 miles it claimed would be an important feature for you.
A long range is definitely an important factor in two-way radios. I wouldn't like that.
Sounds like a great pair of two way radios, just wish the range was better on them.
It's so cute that even though the radio was dropped in the water & worked just fine, the range still isn't as far as it should be.....they still sound like they have worked out great for you!!!
The range on ours wasn't quite what it said either. It is impressive that they worked after landing in water though!
It means alot if they can hold up so well, then you dont mind spending the money for them.
Sorry that this radio was a little disappointing. The range would annoy me too if I thought it was going to be better. It is a great idea though to carry something like this when hunting.
