Cookbook for Family Gatherings
By Alice onI love cookbooks but only have somuch room.With the ease of finding any recipe I might want on theinternet, it's hard to justify another cookbook on my shelf.ComingHome " Food to Bring Family & Friends to the Table" by GooseberryPatch is probably one of the last I purchased and certainly one of myfavorites.I would recommend it to anyone looking for delicious recipes ina book chalk full of the most beautiful pictures of not only the recipes but decorating and craft ideas for each section listed below.The pictures are what inspired me to buy this cookbook and I'msure you won't be disappointed either.
Coming Home was published in May, 2007 and contains 160 pages of recipesand pictures.
It is divided into these 11 sections:
Its Halloween:You won't believe the realistic Pumpkin CheeseBall recipe and the Crunchy Hot Chicken Salad is one of my favorites.The Mummy Hot Dogs were a hit with the kids at one of our Halloweenparties.
Giving Thanks:The Farmhouse Apple Bread is delicious andmoist.Crustless Pumpkin Pie is so easy to make and always a hit when I bring it for a family Thanksgiving party.
Christmas in the Cabin:Overnight Raisin French Toast has becomea favorite holiday breakfast treat while we are opening presents on Christmas morning.
Sunday Dinner:The Country Style 3-Bean Salad is a favorite ofmy husbands and the Dandy Deviled Eggs have a special twist to them!Send me a message and I'll be glad to share it with you.
Bake Sale:This section is full of treats to contributeto a school or church bake sale.
Picnic BBQ:My favorite recipe here is the Calico Beans which Ikick up a notch by adding ground beef, it's a meal in itself.
Recipe Swap:This section inspired me to get together withscrapbooking friends.We each bring a new dish/dessert to taste withcopies of the recipe to swap while we scrapbook the afternoon away.There's a to die for recipe here for a Golden Tequila Lime Tart,yumm....
Tag Sale:After a day of antiquing or garage sale shopping with your better half, daughter, or good friend, come home and pig out on BBQ Nachosor sanwiches made with Shredded Chicken which was cooking in my crock pot while I was out shopping.
County Fair:You'll find Travelin' Tacos, Funnel Cakes and a recipefor Sugared Cinnamon Pecans in this section.
Bonfire:Campfire Corn Dogs, Hobo Pouches and ChocolateMarshmallow Banana Boats are camping favorites or backyard treats!
Gifts for Giving:I think this is my favorite section which isfilled with recipes and handmade gifts for the Christmas season.
If you are looking for a certain type of recipe the back of the bookcontains all the recipes by type:appetizers, beverages, breads, etc.There is also a U.S. to Canadian recipe equivalents which has come inhandy a few times.I've tried to give you an overview of just some of my families favorites from this cookbook.They are only a few of the many greatrecipes in Coming Home by Gooseberry Patch.
