Corset Of Power! By Devo on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

"Some time ago, never mind how long precisely", I needed something to keep my boobs up under my strapless prom dress. As a 30-something D - DD, I knew a strapless bra wasn't going to cut it. So, I went shopping for a corset. Now, I'm no wimp when it comes to restrictive corsetry, I have been in a number of musicals that required terribly painful costumes so one for prom was no big deal. I shopped around for a time trying to find the right one. I went to all the obvious places; Victoria's Secret, department stores, etc, but with no luck. They just don't make corsets with good boning anymore, and I needed that to keep my honkers in place. Then, as if by divine influence, my mother and I (yes, I went lingerie shopping with my mother) stumbled upon a lingerie shop called Frederick's Of Hollywood. There I found the perfect, cream colored corset. It was an old-fashioned looking piece that tied in the back and really kept everything together. It fit well under my dress and I have been able to wear it over and over again. In college, I wore it to a Rocky Horror Picture Show event (I was one of the most conservatively dressed people there) because it works well as a top. It covers more than most tank tops in fact.

Oh, and for the record, nothing inappropriate happened during or after prom. My date and I got caricature drawings done of ourselves and we pretended to be rich, influential people. Isn't that nice?

*Special thanks to Herman Melville for once again inspiring the opening line of this review.

Update Posted on :

It is also perfect for historical costumes or pirate-themed events.
