Cowan's Gap State Park By Gayle Parks on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
If you live within driving distance of south central pennsylvania and you like to hunt, camp, hike or fish then you should check out Cowan's Gap State Park. Nestled in the Tuscurora mountains it is a scenic and peaceful place to do all of the above. Hiking, fishing, camping and picnicking. The lake is just the right size for a peaceful row across (no motorboats allowed...only row boats or canoes) there are several hiking trails of various terrain levels from easy to difficult and the scenery is outstanding. There is a beach area for swimming (life guards on duty) a snack stand, restrooms, and plenty of picnic areas both covered and out in the open. Plenty of shade with too many different type trees to name. Paved parking areas make it easy to access and there are hard packed walk paths suitable for wheel chairs and strollers. There are also camp sites and cabins available. Pets are welcomed if leashed and you'll need to clean up after them. All in all just a nice, peaceful small little piece of paradise. Check out the web site http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/cowansgap.aspx for info and directions.
