LightScribe is a hardware / software / media solution for creatingcustom labels for the important DVDs or CDs which you create.

A variety of internal and external drives support LightScribe.LightScribe support is included on my HP DV9700T Laptop.

You don't necessarily want to create custom labels for all of thedisks you create, because:

1) The custom media is two to threetimes more expensive, and

2) It is much faster to just use aSharpie.

However, for gifts and other occasions, a custom label makes it more special.

You can get free template software on the web which let's you quicklycreate designs with images and text.On most DVD writers you willneed to manually turn the disk over so that the image can be burnt withthe laser. On my laptop, a disk with images usually takes 15 to 18minutes to process. The images are typically readable, but definitelynot high definition.

There are different color LightScribe media, but to the best of my knowledge all of the disks are monochromatic. Inother words, although the disks have different background colors, imagesand text are represented in grayscale.

For those situations when you want a custom label, LightScribe DVDsor CDs are a good way to go.
