Creating a Memorial with Paving Stones
By Alice onI am writing this review so that perhaps a reader will see what a beautiful small area you can create with just a few paving stones.
Almost two weeks ago we had to have our daughter's beloved Australian Shepherd Sasha put to sleep. She was just over 16 years old and part of our family. We brought her home and buried her in a secluded area of our backyard, snuggled in her favorite quilt with her stuffed animals.
We wanted to mark this area in a special way since she had been so special to us.We found these paving stones called cobbled pavers at Home Depot. They measure 6" x 12 ", are a grey color and look like many smaller pavers in each one.
Using 12 of these and arranging them horizontally and vertically we were able to create an area just the perfect size we needed, 24" x 36".We made sure the dirt was settled and leveled it off, covered it with the weed resistant plastic and then just put the pavers down.It was very easy to do with such a small area.
We planted gerber daisies, mexican heather and miniature mums around the pavers. We had saved Sasha's water bowl and put this out on the pavers filled with water for the birds.A small stone miniature statue of an Aussie completed our tribute.

Thats a great idea, we did something similiar when our Jacque died :(
I just love this idea, and your area turned out beautifully. What a great way to remember Sasha and the joy she gave to your family.
Alice I love this. I always tell my gardening students that their gardens are the ideal place to honor those who've gone home before us. I have a small spot for my husband, which when more settled will be moved and a tree planted to be his living gift to the lanet.
Very sweet! We buried my cat when I was 16 (she was 13) and made a small rock garden (with flowers) over the area in my parents backyard. It really helped to have her so close.
I'm a sucker for dogs. You made me cry.
I love this idea. I'm sorry for your family's loss. :( I have several pets buried around my house (and several more in urns in the house), but I've never used stones to mark their places. It really sounds like a great way to keep the weeds away and create a place to go and visit those beloved pets who leave us way too soon.
What a lovely idea to remember Sasha. I think this is beautiful! You made me cry!
What a beautiful idea to honor your loving pet who has crossed over the rainbow bridge! I'm crying right now - reminds me of losing my boy last year (Lucky was my male dalmatian who had stroke at age 14) - wish I would have thought of something like this. The pavers really make it look pretty.
This is very beautiful. What a wonderful way to remember and honor your beauitful Sasha
It's amazing how these change up the look of the backyard-such a beautiful tribute too to your pet! Sending you hugs!
