Cross Body Wallet On A String
By dsnygrl on - Updated Oct 15, 2011I am not your average woman. I do not drool when I walk past a shoe store and I hate carrying a purse. Unfortunately, most time a purse is a necessity but I try to keep it small and simple. A few years ago discovered Wallets On A String at Target and have been buying them ever since.
The Wallet On A String has just the right amount of room for me to carry everything I need and a little bit more. They are about the length of a standard checkbook and about 2 inches wider. There are 2 separate zippered compartments and a cell phone pocket in the back that closes with a Velcro tab.
The first zippered compartment has a built in checkbook cover, a clear ID pocket and 8 slotted compartments for credit cards. The credit card slots easily hold 2-3 cards and there is even a built in solar calculator that fits into it's own clear pocket.
The second zippered compartment opens like an accordion file and has the divided spaces with tabs that are labled receipts, cash, coins and agenda. The very middle has a small zippered pocket for your change. The last pocket in this section holds a small mirror that attaches in place with a snap so it will not move around or fall out. They also come with an agenda/phone book and a note pad.
There is a long leather looking strap that I wear over my head and across my body so my purse stay secure and close. When I wear it this way, the body of the purse sits just above my hip. The strap is also detachable so if you needed to use it as just a wallet and stick it in a larger bag you could.
Every year Target introduces new patterns and colors to the selection. I have never had one break or wear out on me and I use it every day. I own several just because I like to try the new styles and I tend to get them dirty when I lay them around. The wallet on a string keeps all my valuables organized and close at hand. I love them.
Update On Jan 03, 2010: My husband really wanted me to purchase a designers bag just like this maybe from Coach or Dooney and Burke but NO ONE makes a purse like this. We searched the internet and went to every store we can think of. There are some that are close but very few anymre have a spot for a checkbook. I went to Target this weekend and they still do carry them and they have some new styles but they were sold out of many of them so we decided to wait until they were restocked so I could see all they had available.
Update On Feb 27, 2010: I broke down and went to Target and picked up a new wallet on a string. They change the colors and atterns on these every few months so it's nice to get a new one when they do and still keep the old ones to go with certain outfits.

I have something very similar to this that I use when on vacation so I don't have to carry a normal handbag.
It is a very cool looking wallet.I prefer small wallets in rectangular size.
These look great, especially for vacation or on a mega shopping trip, I like the accordian pocket with a place for receipts. Will definitely check these out. Thanks
I like the way these are worn across the body making it very difficult to steal or get lost. These are great for trips and taking other places where bigger bags and wallets are a pain.
Not bad for $12.99 and it's very functional too! Thanks for sharing this info :)
In my mind I'm thinking it might have a negative side, I mean if its not zipped up well or the zipper is loose and opens as you walk, you could end up losing things..
this would make a great Holliday gift. Thanks for this great review. =)
Very nice wallet.
Those are cute wallet purses. If a store I go to doesn't have a cart, I am not going in. I need a cart to hold my purse. :) I can't go larger than a medium sized bag because the larger you go, the next thing you know is your carrying your husband's wallet, keys and sunglasses too. Maybe I should get one of these?
these are classy looking wallets purses. I loved the external out look as well as internal handy pockets and design. You no doubt found very nice and gorgeous purses for your self. i would love to keep one.
