Crowded Prison By dearcleng on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
On the top of our "Things to do in San Francisco" list we decided to put "Visit Alcatraz" on it. It was recommended by a friend and definitely a learning experience. Alcatraz prison was radiating with history. They had a few options for tours and different areas and we tried to follow the groups but still found ourselves lost in the crowds and roaming away from the group. When it came time for the recorded tour, it was so much more interesting being able to go at our own speeds and the stories were so detailed throughout the recording. It gave us a chance to walk freely and check out the exhibitions on our own without getting trapped with a guide. The timing was perfect and it wasn't boring at all which was great for this generation suffering from ADD. I recommend it amongst the other tours.
Alcatraz Tours Recorded Tour

I want to visit Alcatraz someday. I think it would be very interesting.
I've always wanted to visit Alcatraz. I'm happy to hear the self guided audio tour was just want you needed to enjoy the site. :o)
This would be a very interesting place to visit. Thanks for sharing the information on your tour of Alcatraz.
Wish we would have taken this tour when we were in San Francisco. Great information to know!
Being born in the City, Alcatraz was always a looming presence out there on the Bay. It is very historic and wildly popular with ghost hunters and tourists alike. I recommend taking a blue and white cruise out around the island, to get a sense of its size and presence before going on tour there.
I really like the recorded tour guides so that you can go at your own pace. Only problem is that you can't get answers to questions, which you often can if you get a good guide.
I would love to see this. I have read up on it and it sounds so interesting. Thanks for the information.
I have gone on this tour as well, but actually had a live tour guide. These things make all the difference in the world.
This sounds interesting. I would love to see it and San Francisco.
I have seen some stories about Alcatraz on tv and it seems so interesting to get to visit there. I'm sure that was really amazing to see.
