Darwinia Uplink: Pc By Bartrholomew on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
The reason I'm reviewing 2 games at once is because I bought them that way. From steampowered.com, Valve Softwares Digital Content Distribution System (deep breath), you can download a client that lets you buy and play games %100 digitally (no discs). Anyway, Darwinia and Uplink come in a bundle. Developed by british game studio "Introversion Software", who tout themselves as "The Last of the Bedroom Programmers" have made 3 titles to date. They're all good! Darwinia and Uplink are two of them. Darwinia is, quite simply, a blast from the past. You get to control an army of darwinians in an action-rts in a fight to stabilize a digital land they live in. Darwinia has some very unique 3d graphics, which is like a breath of fresh air. The game is fun as heck, although if you don't have a computer that fits their narrow specifications, it'll probably run very poorly (very immersive. As you perform a hack, a tracker beeps quicker and quicker the closer you are to being caught by the security. Your heart'll be pounding! There are no graphics to speak of, it's strictly a text interface. It's effective though, because it conveys everything you need to know. Since Uplink is on it's own $9.99, and when you buy Darwinia for $19.99 it comes with uplink free, if you aim to buy Uplink get the Darwinia pack as well.
