The first book of ten so far by Charlaine Harris. This book introduces you to Miss Sookie Stackhouse of Bon Temps, Louisiana. A barmaid and telepath, Sookie lives with her grandmother and has done with her brother Jason (who now lives on his own), since the death of her parents as a child. Sookie lives in a world where vampires exist and have revealed their existence to the world. Some vampires live off synthetic blood (True Blood) while others live off willing humans. Some vampires are hunted and drained for their blood, to be sold on the black market. Sookie saves the life of a vampire, Bill Compton, who then later returns the favour, saving her from death by giving her his blood to heal her. Sookie and Bill fall in love with each other, soon becoming a couple. When several people are killed in Bon Temps, assumptions are made that it is Bill who is the murderer. Suddenly dating a vampire becomes more and more dangerous. Great characters and a great plot make this book a must read. After reading this book, there was no turning back. The books have a tv series based on them called True Blood. Charlaine Harris is a talented writer who keeps you reading.
