Dell Inspiron 6000 By Lindy Smith By Lindy Smith on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I bought this laptop back in 2005 and it has been excellent for all of my computer needs. I don't do any computer gaming, so I didn't need a high end processor or advanced graphics card. It only has a 60GB hard drive, but that's easily remedied by upgrading or simply using my external hard drive. When I bought it, the 512MB of memory was decent, but now it's the lower end of the spectrum, so you'll probably get more than that for the same price in today's systems. The speakers are adequate, but kind of weak if you like your music loud. I like the 17 inch monitor which is large and crystal clear for watching video files od all kinds. The Windows XP operating system has been rock-solid and I haven't had any trouble with needing to reload for any reason. There are two USB ports on the side and two on the back, so there's plenty to go around. It comes with a 1394 FireWire port and a secure digital I/O card slot. There's a PCMCIA card slot which I've never used, but it's there if you need it. There's a VGA output as well as an S-Video and composite video out. The integrated 10/100 network Ethernet card has been awesome and I've used the bluetooth wireless to connect to the internet with no problems. The Dell customer support has been great on the few occasions I've needed them, but it hasn't been very often. There are newer and faster models out since I bought mine, but it's performed well for me every single day and done everything I ever needed it to. If you're looking for a laptop or even a desktop, I'd highly recommend getting a Dell.
