While I'm certainly no computer expert, I know when something is wrong. I have a Dell Inspiron 700 Notebook and the battery wouldn't stop overheating. I thought that a computer fan would help, no luck. When I spoke with Dell customer service, they said I needed a new battery. They took my credit card information over the phone and I had the computer battery 2 days later. Perfect, I thought! It only took two days to receive and was the best available price I could find. I had the battery for two days and it wouldn't keep my computer charged. A day after that, the battery wouldn't come on at all. I called Dell again and they quickly sent me out another battery and asked me to send that one back. Battery number two, a week later, wouldn't stay charged and eventually stopped coming on at all. I took my computer to a repair shop thinking that it was my computer, not the battery. The man said it wasn't anything to do with my computer, so again, I called Dell. The same process as before, I received the battery quickly. This time, though, the battery worked. After three batteries, I was just glad to get one that would keep my beloved laptop charged. I've had the battery for over a month now and I've had no problems with it at all. It's just extremely annoying when you keep receiving defective equipment.
This particular battery fits Dell Inspiron 700m and Inspiron 710m Notebooks.

My daughter had the same problem with an overheating laptop battery in the Fall of 2006, and she happened to be in Cyprus at the time. Unlike America, the nearest computer store to Cyprus is somewhere in China, and product shipments are no less than 3 weeks. I told her to use her A/C adapter exclusively so her laptop wouldn't catch on fire like so many were at that time.

Dell is an expensive place to shop without good customer service.
