Delphi And Apollo's Temple By ooncha on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I went to Delphi as part of a school summer program and out of all the towns and cities I've visited, Delphi is my most favorite. First of all, the gorgeous mountain view is breathtaking! It is once said that Delphi is the belly button of the world. Delphi is a very historical and ancient city that is now a modern city in Greece. It's not very big and it's actually quite peaceful and pleasant. We where there in late june-july and everyday was gorgeous! It was hot and sunny and once it rained for 15 minutes! The town is on a mountain side(Mount Parnassus), so it was different for me since I've lived on flat land for most of my life.
Above the town, is Apollo's temple and the well known Delphi oracle. I have to say, seeing this place in person rather than in a textbook is truly something! The temple is gorgeous even in ruins, but man it's a climb. I never felt so out of shape before! The temple has 3 levels, and well the place is complicated to describe so check the map of the place that I've uploaded in this review. Our guide was very informative and told us stories about the place. There's a stadium and a theater also and it's very spectacular to see! I had a class in the stadium and learning about Greece in Greece was something else! Totally beats learning history in classrooms
The food there is so delicious! They mostly have greek food, but it's very delicious! I had the best vanilla and mango ice cream and I could dream about eating it again. The town is so safe at night too, and the hotel we stayed at was very cozy. One morning I was watching the little television they had in my room and they had Digimon airing and they all spoke Greek! It was entertaining for me.
Greece is a really beautiful country and it's definitely a MUST GO! We walked in Mount Olympus and that was something special!
Greece city of Delphi

Oh wow, now I am jealous! I have always wanted to go to Greece! This is deffinately on my must go list ;)
WOW!! You're one lucky gal! Greece is one of the place I want to go too mostly to see the classical architecture that I only get to see on the books that we studied back in college.
How lucky you were able to experience this wonderful place:0) Thanks you for your great description. Greece is one (just one) of the places I would love to visit. Whenever you have the option to go somewhere like this while you are young, jump on it!
I have studied classical Greece and have read about the Oracle at Delphi. I would love to have the experience you had. I think it must be something special to walk on Mount Parnassuse.
