Derby Dolphin Pool Chlorinator, Cute Functional! By Jessica Yamaguchi on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

In all honesty I don't know much about chlorinating a pool! My husband always deals with it! My mother in law bought us this Derby Dolphins Pool Chlorinator. I just thought I would tell you about this little guy and how I've noticed it works.

This has a really cute Dolphin wearing sunglasses as the “top” floater. It has a child resistant lock, an expandable basket with adjustable flow rate and can hold up to 6 of the 3 inch Chlorine tablets. The instructions say that this is designed to be used with the slow dissolving type TRI-CHLORO Tabs (at least 3 at a time). The adjustable basket has the measurements (10,000-40,000 gals) on it to make setting the flow for your pool size easier to determine.

So, you just load it, select your flow, lock it and drop it in the pool! Don't throw it, this can cause your flow adjustment to change. It floats around and does its thing…while looking cute! LOL! We have had no complaints about the performance of this product. I mean, what can I say? It floats…The pool water has stayed fresh and clear. The directions tell us to remove the unit when we are in the pool as a safety precaution. This is a good idea anyways, especially if you have kids…this is NOT a toy and my younger nieces and nephews always want to mess with the thing!

Over all we are happy with this Derby Dolphin Pool Chlorinator! It's simple, functional and fun.We haven't gotten our pool set up yet this year but when we do, there will be a dolphin in it!

My mother in law got this for us at Wal-mart. She got it on clearance at the end of summer so she only paid $4.98. I have seen this regularly priced from $12-18.95. Depending on where you go. It is actually very easy to find. “Game” is the brand you find this in and they make a few other designs as well, Derby Duck, Turtle and there's even a shark. They also make matching brominators and thermometers. It is also available on line.

That is really cute! It is a good thing that you take it out... if I was in your pool I would want to play with it too... ;-)

It must look really cute in your pool but it is important for anyone who has one to keep their kids away from it as it does look like a toy.

Way too cute! Paid2Write is definitely right-although it is adorable, kids would have to stay away from it unfortunately!!

These are great for above the ground pools because they chlorinate the water evenly and thoroughly. We've put these in overnight, so by the time we were ready to swim, the chlorine had dispensed.

What an adorable chlorinator! I don't know much about pools at all, but this little guy is so very cute, you just gotta love how functional he is too!
