Directv Dvr Lifesaver! By Jallyson on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

About a year ago, we decided to upgrade our DIRECTV receiver to a DVR system- we'd had DIRECTV for about a year, and were very happy with them. We were able to upgrade for free (with a 2 year contract extension, of course!), and we currently pay nothing for the service as it is included in our channel package.

I am so happy we decided to get this DVR! It is so easy to use, my 5 year old knows how to record shows that she wants to watch again, which has made life so easy on us- she just hits the button, and now she has Tom and Jerry to watch whenever she likes. We can preset it to record all of our favorite shows, decide how many to keep, whether it should record reruns as well or only first-runs, the list goes on and on. It has great memory capacity as well- we currently have about 10 movies, 50 or so episodes of Courage the Cowardly Dog, about 5-10 varying cartoon episodes, and the whole last season of LOST stored on our DVR- with about 30% of its memory left!

I have never had any problems with this DVR yet. It has never messed up recording a show, never had any trouble with pixilation, nothing. So far, I am very happy with it, and it has saved my sanity more than once- whenever a show is coming on my child wants to watch when it's her bedtime, I just say "We'll record it" and she's off to bed wtihout a problem! :)

This is great for the person who isn't home but likes TV.

I use to really like the DVR I had from Direct TV, the one I have now with cable is a little complicated.

with DirecTV you lease the DVR's at about 4.99-5.99 a month there is no need to buy I have both a R15-300 and a R15-500 plus 2 receivers I do recomend the protection plan if you have a large volume of units.

I will never live without my DVR again. If it breaks, I'm replacing it immediately. I'd give up my cell phone in a heartbeat to keep my DVR.
