DirecTV is much better than Comcast
By dsnygrl on - Updated Oct 15, 2011We have had Direct TV for over 6 years now. We have the total choice monthly package, 2 receivers, HBO and a DVR. With tax and everything added it comes to about $85.00 per month which I personally think is really high but my husband says it is in line with everything else out there. We live in the country so our only other choice is to go with Comcast and after problems with them in the past, we have decided to stay with Direct TV.
Most of the time our reception is very good, unless of course it's raining and then we tend to loose our signal. That not only is a pain but it is also dangerous since there have been several times it has gone out as bad storms were approaching and I had no way to watch the news to see where the storms were and if we needed to go to the basement for cover. We have a basic DVR that records up to 2 shows at a time and I find the the remotes are very easy to use as well. The online menu is easy to read and my son who has grown up with the system mastered using it long ago. When we moved from our old house to this one, we took our boxes and let the dish. We called Direct TV and they came out and installed a brand new dish at this house for no charge.
We have only had to call customer service a few times and each time the problem was taken care of and resolved quickly. All said the monthly fee is high and there are problems when it rains but the picture and sound quality are excellent and we are pleased with the service.
Update On Feb 27, 2010: I really miss our Dirctv and I am trying to talk my husband into switching back from the Comcast we have now.

I've had direct tv for 1yr. I switched cuz Comcast kept raisin their prices. I've only had 1 problem when my signal was lost due 2 rain and we have had alot of very bad storms here in Pittsburgh. I have heard of others sayin their signal goes out alot during storms but I guess I've been very blessed in that dept not 2 have experienced it as often. Hopefully it stays that way.

As for the others, I am sorry to learn that you switched to our competitor. If there is anything that I can do to convince you to come back as our customer, please let me know. We'll probably switch back to this service. Verizon is way too expensive so this is the cheaper and more luxurious alternative
I wish we could switch to DirectTV. We've had Comcast. Our Comedy Central doesn't come in well at all. And since we rent, they still want to charge us to come out and just check the line. Whether they find something or not, it would cost us $40. We aren't doing that and neither will our landlord. It's obvious that if one channel isn't working, it has to be on their end, but they aren't very helpful. And regarding their DVR box ... We've had Comcast in this home for over a year now and just HATE the DVR boxes here. The time for recording shows is awful. We always have to schedule the record and adjust the end recording time within 5 minutes, or the shows always cut off. Do you know how frustrating it is to watch a movie and then you miss the ending because Comcast started the next show? Right now, we are using their high speed Internet, which is really good and I need it for web designing, but I wish I could convince my hubby to switch to satellite. The satellite dish is already attached to the house. When we were in Orlando, Brighthouse had been our cable of choice, until we had no choice and had to pick Comcast.
Good review. I like directv but recently Dish Network came out with an awesome deal and from what I am seeing so far its just as good. i would have taken directv or comcast too.
I love DirecTV except for the weather related interruptions. There has to be some way they can fix that problem.
I agree I liked it when we had Directv much better than the Comcast we have now.
