Disney's Contemporary Resort
By Mom2One onEver since my first trip to Walt Disney World I have always wanted to stay at the Contemporary Resort. I didn't think I would ever be able to afford it. Well, one year we happened to have annual passes and Disney released a discount deal for annual pass members. We quickly decided to stay at the Contemporary, as we knew we might not get that opportunity again.
Our stay was wonderful. I fell in love with the Contemporary. I have heard some people say it has a 70s feel to it, and I guess I can sort of see the point, but it was perfect for me and my family.
We had the standard room, which has 2 queen beds, a daybed, a small refrigerator, and a nice size TV. The room itself was nice in size, more room then any of Disney's value resorts.
The best thing about the Contemporary is being right on the monorail loop. We could leave Magic Kingdom and be back in our room within 15 minutes! The Contemporary is the closest resort to the Magic Kingdom. There is a walking path to Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary, but we only used it once. It was shorter to just take the monorail in my opinion.
To get to Epcot, you must transfer monorails but it isn't that bad.
To get to Animal Kingdom and MGM (now Hollywood Studios), you have to take one of the Disney buses, like all the other resorts.
I also like just being a monorail stop away from the Polynesian and Grand Floridian, Disney's other deluxe resorts. It was easy to hop over to those resorts for a nice lunch or dinner.
The Contemporary Resort has a huge arcade area for the kids, and us big kids. My son spent quite a bit of time in there.
The food court was probably my only minor disappointment. It wasn't that big of a selection compared to other Disney resorts. I did hear that Disney is currently moving the food court area and adding to it, so hopefully in the near future they will have a better selection.
My favorite restaurant happens to be in the Contemporary, California Grille. If you are staying here make sure to make a reservation at this place. The food is so delicious. Heck, even if you aren't staying here make a point to eat here.
Also this resort has the famous Chef Mickey where you can have breakfast or dinner with Mickey and friends. We happened to make the first reservation of the morning (7:00) during our stay. Since we were staying at the resort we didn't have to get up super early and being we had the first seating of the day, we didn't have a lot of other people in the restaurant at the time. Which meant more time with the characters!
I love the Contemporary Resort and wish I could stay here every time we visit Walt Disney World, but unfortunately we can't.
I don't know when we will be able to stay here again, but I am glad we were able to experience it at least once!
If you can swing the price, I would definitely recommend the Contemporary Resort for your Walt Disney vacation
I would absolutely love to stay at the Contemporary. The only reason why we have not is that we really need 2 rooms and that would be quite pricey... My son will not sleep in the same room with us due to snoring... so we would all be miserable... Someday though.... ;-)
My sister and I really would like to get a chance to stay here. We love the easy access to the monorail but definitely need to save up our pennies or get a good discount deal like you did!

I have always wanted to stay at the Contemporary resort too. We have stayed at a couple of the moderates and one of the value resorts, but we just haven't had the money for a deluxe yet. The contemporary is just very cool looking and I love the Chef Mickey's restaurant, plus the fact that the monorail runs right through it is awesome. Hopefully one day we'll get to stay there.
