Dolphin Watching At Its Best By Jolens on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Palawan is my hometown. If you look up the map of the Philippines, you will see it at the very bottom. It is a very long island and its capital city is Puerto Princesa. It is also known as my country's "Last Frontier", because of its virgin islands and rich natural resources.

I had the most thrilling experience when I went there last September 2007 because they had just opened a dolphin watching tour at the Puerto Princesa bay. Imagine seeing about 500 dolphins all at once! Even though it took us a little while to spot the pod, it was worth it. The coolest thing was when they flipped through the air around our boat. I can remember standing up and sitting right at the nose of the boat, hoping that I could touch them.

Summer is the best time to see them because the water is calm. Dry season in the Philippines starts from October and runs until June. Palawan is normally packed with tourists in summer and this is the time of the year where air fares go up. Booking in advance is always recommended.
