Don't depend on Uhaul
By donnabc onI have moved more times in my adult life than I care to count.I can however, tell you that I have rented Uhaul no less than 3 times.All were NOT a good experience for one reason or other.Last time I moved I finally learned my lesson and hired a local inexpensive mover.
Ok, so let me tell you some about my issues with Uhaul.The first time I rented a Uhaul I was moving from Miami to NC.The hitch broke in Jacksonville FL.I've blocked out the details of this event but in summary it was not good.
The second time I rented a Uhaul I was moving my stuff into my soon to be hubby's home just a few miles down the road.The reason I chose Uhaul was their well known advertisement that you can rent a Uhaul for something like 20 or 30 dollars a day.Well, what I found out when I arrived was this did NOT include additional fees.Since we both took off the day and had the stuff packed up, we went ahead with the rental but I was NOT a happy camper.
Now, you would think that I'd have learned my lesson.But alas, I continued to have hope for Uhaul.This time we were moving the next town over (about 30 miles) with a 3 week old premmie who had just come out of the hospital for the second time after recovering from the flu.So, perhaps I can claim temporary insanity since I was sleep deprived when I booked Uhaul yet again.Once again I booked at least a week in advance but when I arrived to pick up the Uhaul I was informed that it was not available!And they do NOT guarentee that when you book in advance it will be there!How crazy is that.What's the purpose of booking it if they can't make arrangements to have what you booked?
After my meltdown, I located another moving trailer at another dealer.
In summary, don't count on Uhaul if you want to PLAN your move.If you can be flexible with the date, and it does not matter that your trailer does not arrive until several days AFTER your request, then Uhaul may be the company for you.

I have never had very good luck with U-Haul. They are certainly not worth the money. Thanks for sharing the information and your experience.
Uhual is not hte easiest company to tend with. I try to avoid them if at all possible.
I have just recently used Uhaul, as it took us several trips over the course of 3 weeks to completely move into our new home, but I agree, Uhaul definately isn't so great. We really didn't have choice because even tho we live in a big city, there were no other rental truck companies near us. But everytime, they never had the truck we reserved, the charge was always more, and it took much longer than the 2 days they said the deposit would be put back on your credit card.
I have used Uhaul once and it was a good experience, I hope I don't have the same problems you have!
We had the same experience with Uhaul. We went to pick it up after booking weeks in advance, and they didn't have it! I could not believe they don't guarantee it. The poor guy got an earful that day and we have not used them since.
sorry to hear about your awful experience with Uhaul, just hope you have better luck next time if you choose to use Uhaul again which I sincerely doubt you will...LOL
I've never had good luck with UHaul either. I hope your move is better next time!
