Dorothy Dandridge: A Biography By Ezriela on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

After seeing Halle Berry's portrayal of the late African-American film actress Dorothy Dandridge, I was curious to know the story of the real person the television movie was based on, so I sought out information on the subject and came across an excellent book by film historian Donald Bogle, titled Dorothy Dandridge: A Biography by Donald Bogle. The truth of the matter is that the t.v. movie only touched on a portion of this woman's tragic life. In spite of her tremendous talents and dread-dead-gorgeous looks, Dandridge suffered from the trauma of years of physical and mental abuse as a child, not to mention having to endure racism in the entertainment industry. This well-research biography is intriguing and sorrowful, yet very respectful of its subject and I found it hard to put the book down, finishing it within a matter of days.
