Reviewing: Reckitt Benckiser Easy Off Oven Cleaner

Yes, the title of this review is correct. Easy-Off, even though it's created to clean kitchen ovens and BBQ grills, also cleans soap scum off your bathtub!

My husband purchased this, so I am unsure at how much he paid, but assume it was under or around $5.00. He had recently read an article about cleaning a bathtub with Easy-Off but when he told me he needed to purchase some, I thought he was going to clean the oven and grill. Wrong!

He came over to me and said, "Go check out the bathtub." Honestly, I did NOT wish to go check it out because he's been using it for showering and I prefer our walk-in shower with glass doors. Anyway, I went to check out the tub and it was squeaky clean. WOW! I looked at him and the can of Easy-Off and he proceeded to tell me about that article and how it said to leave the Easy-Off on the tub for at least 15 minutes. Then either spray off with water or wipe with a sponge. I asked if he had to scrub at all and he said, "No!" He told me the Easy-Off made is SO easy to just wipe the tub clean and that he could have used the shower hose to just rinse, but preferred the sponge. He said there was no scrubbing, no Mr. Clean sponge - just a regular sponge and the Easy-Off Oven Cleaner.

I should have taken a picture of the before appearance of the tub, but I didn't know what he was doing. And, I really don't think I'd like to show what the tub was starting to look like before he cleaned it. Granted it was mostly the white soap scum you normally get in the tub and shower. He not only cleaned the porcelain tub but also the wall tiles. It all really looks great and I am quite shocked that an oven cleaner could do this. Unfortunately, the picture of the tub really doesn't do it justice. And those non-skid things they put in the tub are the cleanest they've been since before we moved in almost two years ago. One more cleaning and this shower/tub will look like new!

The other bonus is that now I can always ask if he'd like to clean the showers and the tub. He'll be more than happy to. Isn't it great how hubbys can get excited when THEY find a way to cut cleaning time? This stuff is wonderful!

I was totally amazed on how clean he got it without even trying. I haven't used it in our shower yet, but that's next. And the tub wasn't slick so the shower should not be because it's one of those plastic shower stalls.

This is great! I wondering if your tub is smooth or rough and if the surrounding walls are the smooth or the rough type, or tiles and grout? In our tenants area, at the other end of our home, their bathroom has the *rougher tub and tub surrounds are rough also, rather than the smooth ones. Can you expound a bit more on the texture of the surfaces which you and/or your hubby cleaned with this?

Hi - our tub in the photo is smooth porcelain but the texture should not matter because the foam will get into the rough uneven areas too. If you have a plastic tub and shower, I'd test it in a small area first. Our walls are ceramic tiles with grout.
