Eclipse Black Out Drapery
By Tink onI wake up at 6am every day in the summer time. Not because I want to, but because the morning sun smacks me in the face each day at that time.I have some mini blinds and regular curtains on my bedroom window but they don't keep out the morning light. So I took a trip to K-mart because they advertised some "black out curtains".
These are called "Eclipse".They have a thermal coating on the back of the curtains.I have a similiar type curtain on my living room windows that I have owned for 30 some years. That's right...they last a long time.So I thought these would be perfect.I was a bit disappointed in the color choice. They only came in three colors and two fabric styles. The one I chose was the black curtain and it's called "Kent Stripe".I know what you are thinking...black curtains?Well my daughter said she has black curtains in her room and they look fine.Besides, this color and style was the only one that they had in stock to fit my window.
So I put them up when I got home.At first I thought they weren't going to work. They fit perfectly.I might shorten them a bit since they do seem to be a bit longer than I want. The next morning would be the deciding factor. If they keep out the morning sun and let me sleep until 8am, they can stay...if not, they are going back to the store!
I slept until 8am with no problem.Yippee! These curtains are a winner! They do block out most of the light, of course some still sneaks in but not enough to wake me!These would be a perfect curtain for a entertainment room for when you are trying to watch movies during the day.
These curtains should keep my room cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter too.One great thing about these curtains is that they are machine washable.Awesome!
If you are looking for some curtains to darken your room, invest in these.I got them on sale but even at full price they would be more than worth it!

Sounds like a great idea for my daughters room. I am tired of her getting up at 5am!
Now why in the world did I not invent this?! What a great idea!
Very interesting! I may have to take a look into these for my sons room.
We have a similar type thing - more of a shade material that goes behind the regualr curtains. Funny thing happened when the kitten crawled up them and put little holes it it! auggggg
These are an ideal solution to getting sun blasted awake Tink. KMart has some really good buys on things like this.
I have some blackout shades, and I love them
Wow! I am definitely going to have to look into getting some of these. Our bedroom is painted a weird color (we are renting), and I'm not crazy about black curtains, but the days are soooo long in WA, and we were not happy during this first summer we spent here! Seems like it's dark all day now, but we are going to need these...
