I received Electronic Gaming Monthly as a gift from a friend. It is a great magazine if you want to read about the latest and greatest when it comes to games. This magazine covers the latest and upcoming hot titles for every current-generation video game system out there, including the PC. However, that said, EGM does not adequately cover more niche (even if they are good) games, since the purpose of this magazine is to appeal to the masses. Case in point, the months leading up to the release of "Halo 3" for the XBOX360 filled the pages nonstop.

That said, if you're like me and don't enjoy searching video game review sites for the latest-and-greatest, this magazine gives an excellent rundown. It has very little aside from ratings and previews, however. If you're looking for in-depth articles about the nature of certain games or their developers' intent, this is not the magazine for you.
