Reviewing: Emerge Summer Camp

My son LOVES art....anything creative really.Last year he attended Emerge Summer Camp for 3 separate programs. He loved them all.

His favorite week was called Claymation. The kids made little clay figurines, props, and sets. Then they directed and produced flims (using snap shots). At the end of the week they had a film showing where all the movies were shown. Each child was given a DVD copy of all the films done that week.

Another week he attended was pottery. They did pinch pots, used the potters wheels, glaze, painted, etc.Really anything and everything you could think of with clay.My son saved many of his pots and wall hangings and gave them to various family members for Christmas presents last year.

And the last week he attended was a mixture of tons of different stuff. One day they tie dyed tshirts. They did silk screening.Made their own board game.Did some clay work. And other projects I now can not recall.

The sessions are "all day," which is 9 am to 4 pm with an hour lunch (they bring their bag lunches). But you can pay extra to drop off early (7:30 a.m.) or pick up late (5 p.m.)The cost is wonderful in my opinion....$125 a week!

My son enjoyed himself so much last year that he plans to attend a couple weeks this summer as well. And he chose to have his birthday party there as well just a few weeks ago (also a fabulous deal).

Update On Jun 07, 2008: The two pictures are actually from my son's birthday party this year but they used the same equipment and room last summer (and this summer) for clay projects :0)

Anything that encourages and fosters a love for the Arts is truly a wonderful thing for children. I'm happy he enjoyed his experiences there, cos he'll carrry them in his heart all his life.

What a great experience for creative kids! You don't say where this is, or if it is a franchise that someone might find anywhere.

Ah. This is at an art studio located in downtown Greenville NC. It is independently owned and and run. Mostly they focus on displaying art from art students at ECU (that is available for purchase). But anyone can display and sell there...I think it is called a coop? In addition she provides art classes for adults and kids (everything from painting, metal, jewelry, photography, pottery, textiles, etc). Then in the summer she has these week long day camps which are a wonderful alternative to daycare!

So glad when kids like camp-they need that away time.
