Emigrant Direct was our first foray into online banking. We still use them today, though with the recent drop in interest rates, we may be looking around for other options.

They offer competitive interest rates and easy set up of new accounts. On the few times I've called customer service, I've spent very little time on hold and always gotten polite, extremely helpful responses. The layout of their website is very simple, though they are up to date with all the new federal requirements for online security. In fact, they were one of the first of our accounts to update the login process.

However, this is not a bank with many bells and whistles. You get a simple interface, but not a lot of options as far as splitting your account or account tracking goes. ING does a better job with that, though their interest rates are not as competitive.

Overall, this has been a good account for us for a few years, though if more options with higher earnings aren't offered soon, we may be researching a new bank.
