Ever since I was a little girl my mother has rubbed some brand of medicated chest rub on my chest and under my nose when I had a cold. Each night during my cold before she tucked me in bed she would lather up my chest with this and put a little on my upper lip under my nose to help me sleep better, because I could breath better. By morning I would feel better because I was able to get a good nights sleep. I have continued this tradition with my own kids as well as myself as an adult. I have also used this on my husband who never had this done as a child and he seems to think it helps with the cold also. I have used several of these more expensive products and have found the equate generic brand works just as well but for much less money.
