Eragon - Eragon review
By Devo onEver wish you could un-read something? I wish I could un-read Eragon. This fantasy epic (and I use that term liberally) is about a young boy who finds a dragon, befriends a warrior, and goes on an adventure to save the realm! Paolini was 13 when he started writing this book and it shows. It reads like something a pre-pubescent boy would write. Paolini has no doubt become a better writer with age, but that doesn't change the fact that Eragon is probably one of the worst books ever written. I don't know what bothers me more, the highly unoriginal story or the fact that this book made tons of money. It's a sad day in literature when Eragon is a best seller. This book rivals teen poetry for the title of "worst thing to read." By the time the "hero" goes off and finds a white stallion to ride I wanted to gouge my eyes out with a brooch Oedipus-style. Luckily for me, there was no brooch within arms reach. If you want a good book for your child to read, buy Black Beauty, or even Harry Potter (I won't be mad), but for the love of all that is decent, DON'T BUY ERAGON.

Heh, I tried watching the film version on TV once. Got through about 10 or 15 minutes before I switched to something else. It is unfortunate to hear that the book doesn't redeem the film adaptation.
