Everex StepNote NC1610 Laptop
By balentine2 onMy sons were asking for a laptop for Christmas last year. Since I have twins that meant 2 laptops and twice the expense. Also, being 13 year old boys, they don't always take the best care of their belongings. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something I wasn't sure they would take care of. While checking out laptops on the internet I came across the Everex StepNote NC1610 Laptop.I had never heard of this brand but it had a lot of good reviews and was under $400.00 so I decided to give it a try.
My sons opened these Christmas morning, charged the batteries, and the rest is history. This laptop has more than lived up to any expectations that I had for it. The boys have been able to do everything they wanted to on it with no troubles.
The Everex StepNote NC1610 is a 15.4" laptop. It came with Windows Vista Home Basic installed. This laptop comes with a CD/DVD burner It has a 1 year warranty included but I bought the 2 year extended warranty for an additional $70.00.
So far, these laptops have survived 4 months of almost continuous use. My sons have carried it back and forth to the weekend visits to their dad's house. They use it to play games, watch videos, talk on chat rooms (supervised, of course), listen to CD's, watch DVD's and many other things.
This laptop was part of a bundle package. It also came with a mouse, additional 512 MB of memory and a laptop bag. The total price for the bundle was $459.98, but the laptop sold separetely at that time for $398.00.
The only negative we have with this laptop is that it doesn't come with Microsoft Word. It comes with OpenOffice.org 2.2 Office Suite which the boys don't really like because they are used to Word.
If you are looking for an inexpensive starter laptop for your young teen or pre-teen, I highly recommend this one. If it can survive my sons, it can survive anything.

Wow, this sounds like it really worked out well. Pretty nice mom to cough up two of these for Christmas!
I kind of want a laptop but I always assumed I would get one and not use it much. I may have to keep this one in mind in case I ever want to try one. This would be an inexpensive way to go. :)
This sounds like a good starter laptop for kids-I'm glad your twins are enjoying their's!
Lucky boys . They must be very very good :) I think it's great that you were able to find a laptop at this price that was worth the money and more.
what kind of softwre they used for worms and virus because I can careless about the speed and all the good quality every computer should have if virus can easily penetrate the software to slow down your computer.
Sounds like a pretty durable laptop. Glad your boys are enjoying their new computers.
A really cheap laptop.Didn't know such a brand can stand rough usage.I thought only HP or Fujitsu laptops can be handled in such a way.
Sounds like you got a good laptop for the price!
