Everstar Mpa 08 Cr Portable Air Conditioner By PDCD on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Everstar MPA-08CR is a low end portable AC unit with extra functionality of acting as a stationary fan and dehumidifier. Aside from these modes, it has a variety of other options such as a timer for turning off, oscillation, directional fan setting, and a remote control.

Like all portable AC units, it has a hose attachment that you need to vent out of a window, and it comes with some plastic window inserts to prevent most air from outside getting in. It also has a container to hold water that gathers while using the AC or dehumidifier modes. The container is about 1.5 gallons in size and if it fills up the unit automatically shuts off so you never have to worry about spills. It does come with a hose attachment that can be fitted into the window insert to automatically remove water. When not using automatic water removal, the water bin needs to be emptied 1-3 times a day, depending on the humidity. A filter on the side needs to be cleaned out occasionally as well.

At 8000 BTU it's not the most powerful unit out there, but it does a good job of cooling off a single room, a couple of small rooms, or a shed/garage. It is definitely not powerful enough to make an entire house or even an entire apartment cool. It's quite loud as well, comparable to a washing machine or dryer. It comes on wheels, but still may be difficult for some to move around at over 80 lbs.

All in all, I like this AC unit, but it's definitely just for small living or working areas.

I wonder if this would work in a boat cabin? This sounds very interesting if it would. Thanks for the information.

Sounds like a good AC alternative, except for a couple of drawbacks.

Thanks for the honest, detailed information. I have central air so I do not have to worry about this issue, but this information could certainly help my daughter.

It sounds like this unit could use some improvements but I was not aware there were a/c units that could also be used as fans and dehumidifiers. Soumthing like this might be perfect in our basement area. Thank you for informing me these were available.

I need something like this at work. We never seem to be cool enough in this one room. I think making it portable will be easy to move around if another room becomes too warm. This is a perfect solution for me!

It's been so long that I've had central heat and air that I forgot how loud some of these units can be. I think if it is as loud as a washer that would drive me bonkers.

We have this in our office and it does an okay job at cooling this room.
