Every Ebay Seller Needs A Postage Scale! By Alice on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
As a seller on ebay I grew tired of estimating how much an item weighed and then loosing money on postage fees collected because I guessed on the weight. Many times I would have to pay more to ship a package than what I had quoted in my auction. That grew old very fast.
I found this little 5 lb. digital scale on sale at Office Max and since the majority of my sales are under that weight, I picked this one. It is very light and easy to take from room to room, wherever I am packaging and have a flat even space, usually the kitchen counter. The screen is bright and the numbers are easy to read. The scale shuts off by itself after a half minute or so, no need to worry about running out the batteries.
Before I list an item on ebay now, I take the item and place it in a shipping box and weigh it. I can quote almost to the penny what it would cost to ship an item media rate, first class or prioirty. I can input this information into the paypal shipping program and it prints out my postage label.
This scale is one of the best investments I have made and it has worked flawlessly since the day I purchased it 3 years ago. It gets my recommendation.

Indeed they are, and I'll be sure to get me a hold of one of these before I sell my first item over there - thanks for all the info!
I think the most money lost on ebay is from mis-guessing how much it will cost to mail an item. Great revew! Thanks for sharing!
As an ebay buyer and seller, this is a great idea.
I never thought of getting one of these.
Yes, I have made the mistake on shipping charges before. Great article.
We're just starting on Ebay and this sounds like a good addition to our supplies. Thanks!
Sounds like a great scale! I'm in the market for a new one, I've had mine for 7 years now and it is getting a little worse for the wear ;).
This is so true, i've experienced alot of good buys with ebay, and unfortunately a few bad ones. Many arguments are made over weighting and postage of products, and therefore, what a good buy.
I always wondered where you get these scales. I will have to look at Office Max. Thanks for the info!
Your information about using for ebay is right on. This scale seems to find the exact weight and the shipping costs for the packages we need to send out.
