Excellent Near Field Speakers By kmowery on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

The Cyber Acoustics 3 piece subwoofer system provides excellent sound for a laptop. I use an old laptop computer as a general mp3 player in my living room. I needed a small, visually attractive speaker system that could sit unnoticed on the bookshelf and sound good from about 20 feet away. This small 40 watt system certainly fits the bill.

Computer speakers can sound a little thin on both the mid range and bass frequencies. Not these babies. They provide a fine full sound with just enough bass to know its there but not so much as to over power the mids. There is a balance control that lets you adjust the bass level. I like the sound with the bass control on full bore. The system produces a fine enough sound that high volume levels are not obnoxious or hard on the ears.

I also attached this speaker system to an old television with very favorable results. Although it does not produce the separation or fidelity of a surround sound system, it does offer an audio upgrade over the internal speakers of an older television. Of course, the 1/8 inch stereo connector can also plug directly into any mp3 player. This system works well for any near field listening environment.

These speakers cost about $30 and at that price, they truely rock.
