This 8 oz. bottle of Exchange Select Tussin DM Children and Adult Cough Formula claims that it will give you relief from your cough that is primarily caused by a cold. It will also help to loosen phlegm. It is alcohol free. This product is similar to that of Robitussin DM. This is a cheaper version.

I had a cold a short time ago with an annoying cough I could not get rid of. I had Tussin DM in my cabinet and tried it. The directions state that you are to take 2 tsp. every 4 hours. It took about 15 minutes or so before it began to work. When it finally did, I noticed right away that my cough diminished though it came back in about an hour or so unfortunately. I decided then to take a different medication. I wasn't going to give up yet so I gave Tussin Dm one more try and took 2 tsp. the next day. This time, it didn't work at all. I still had my cough. I don't know if it was because my cough was too strong for the medication or what. I did notice though that my phlegm did become more loose. Other than that, I wasn't happy with this product and will be taking an over the counter product that is more potent for my cough.
