Eyeclops Bionic Eye Is Watching You
By dsnygrl onI had high hopes for this when I bought it. I have a 13 year old who loves science and shows like CSI and said she wanted a microscope and a 6 year old who saw an ad for this on TV and wanted it so I thought it was a good buy. The EyeClops Bionic Eye is a hand held device that plugs into your TV and acts like a microscope by magnifying objects up to 200 times thier regular size. It has a built in light to make things a little easier to see and a dish and a tube so you can look at liquid items as well as solids. The first day they opened it they could not stop playing with it. They worked together to find different objects around the house to look at and spent hours together playing. The second day when they had just about run out of things to look at, they played for about an hour and since then, it has been sitting in its box at the bottom of the toy closet. It does work and it does make the stuff you magnify look really cool up on the TV rather than looking through the tiny eye piece on a traditional microscope and it is easy to use but it lost its fun factor way too soon.

It sounds like it should be a great product.
I suspect that one of these days it will come out again. They'll find something cool and say, "Let's look at it with the Eyeclops," and then they'll do another round of looking at things. Sounds like something that they won't outgrow at any rate. I'll bet there might be ideas for school projects. How about a rainy day scavenger hunt? Find something with fur you can't see? Find something with invisible bumps?
Neat! Have you offered to let them play with the box? Good write.
