Fat Max Utility Knife, Might Be Mac The Knife By dade on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Fat Max Retractable Utility Knife is what other utility knives wished the looked like. When you pull the Fat Max out of your pocket, everyone knows, you mean to do some serious cutting on something.

Stanley utility knives have come a long way. Not just content to rest on their fame, those people at Stanley just can't seem to leave well enough alone. They are always trying to reinvent themselves, then usually find themselves right back at square one, again.

The Fat Max may look both menacing and high tech at the same time, yet I was not impressed. It is not very straight forward, when you wish to switch out a dull blade, for a sharp one. If you are not paying close attention, someone might end up getting a few stitches in their finger. A chinese puzzle with a razor sharp blade in the middle is not my idea of, the Stanley challenge.

Although I use the Fat Max on occasion, I gravitate back to the original Stanley model, utility knife. Sure, you still have to unscrew it to get to the blades, but at least I am not going to lose a piece of my finger over it.

Shame on you Stanley. It's back to the drawing board for you, until you work this out better.
