Reviewing: Universal Pictures Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a story about a journalist; Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp), his bad influence lawyer; Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro), and their attempt to cover the story of a motorcycle race that is taking place in Las Vegas. Most of the movie both of the characters are either stoned out of their minds, tripping on acid, or even both. The movie moves by at an incredibly slow pace and is extremely boring. The characters are 'tripping out' so often that it is hard to tell what is actually happening and what they are just imagining. The one aspect of the movie that I did enjoy quit a bit was all the celebrity cameos, which featured: Tobey Maguire, Gary Busey, Cameron Diaz, Ellen Barkin, and many other celebs. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is based on a true story and was released in May of '98. It is considered a Drama/Fantasy and was nominated for 1 award and won 1 award (the Golden Aries for Best Foreign Actor; Johnny Depp). While the movie does feature good performances from Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro, I strongly suggest not seeing it. It seems like two guys just took a lot of drugs and decided to make a movie about what happened, or at least what they thought happened.
