Fender Fat Strat 2006 anniversary edition
By Geoff Wadhams onFender strats are everywhere, and if you pick 20 clones off the wall they will all be different. So my quest for the perfect strat continues.. I have always been a 3 single coil player, but the bridge 'bucker makes for a versitile axe. It also kicks the effects chain a little bit harder which is usefull to me. I have a custom shop Tele and a G&L legacy (American), and I find myself reaching for the Mexican Fat Strat more than any other guitar. Some instruments just have "it". That combination of materials, fit and finish that make a great instrument- more importantly one you want to play. So enough flowers, what did I have to fix? Mine had sharp frets, not a big deal but I had to fix that. and the last owner must have flipped one of the humbucker coil polarities (thin nasal tone) in the bridge position. Fixed. Action was very high and was quickly lowered. I think the pots and switch could use an upgrade but they are perfectly useable. I like the pickups, vintage style staggered poles with plenty of output. Overall, this guitar feels, plays and sounds great. These are some of the best deals going if you can find one gently used. I've played many USA strats that are not any better, and some worse.
