First Alert Premium Smoke and Fire Detector
By Maliki2 onI had a smoke detector go bad on me, it was your basic smoke only detector, cheap but did its job. When I went to Ace Hardware, I was surprised how far detectors had come. I picked up the First Alert Smoke & Fire detector for 21.99 and headed to the register.
The reason I bought this detector is that it has some features, I thought were new and safety can never be compromised. The first thing I noticed about this detector is that it has a light on it. When the alarm activates the light comes on. The light illuminates your hallway so you can see where your going in case of fire. Put it in your hallways or stairwells as recommended! It also has a missing battery guard. A loud 85 decibel alarm, low battery warning, blinking power indicator, side battery drawer, and a silence/test button.
The only bad thing is that this isn't hardwired and only runs off a 9 volt battery, so make sure to check it every week or month to make sure its good to go.
Overall I like this added feature and the price/features of this alarm are excellent to have!

i always wanted to have some thing like this
I agree with you-I too think the only downfall with smoke detectors is that they run on a 9 volt battery-I think they should be automatically hard wired in all homes!
My smoke detectors are wired into my home. However, I still think it's a good idea to have battery powered smoke/fire detectors as a backup. First Alert is a great choice!
I like that it's not hard-wired. You can actually make it shut off if you accidentally burn dinner. Been there, done that!
That is great that this one has a light. Wow. I don't think I have seen any with that feature.
