I had been wanting to buy a new smoke & fire alarm for my house for sometime now. My old one was so sensitive that it would go off if you just cooked something in the oven or sometimes just on top of the stove. I have it placed in the living room where it would shine its light into the hall way in the event of a fire god forbid.

I have seen these for sale by First Alert for many years now and wanted to buy one but like many things you just never get around to it. The price was right and I figured better safe than sorry and I put the older one in the entrance to the cellar. It has a mute button for unwanted alarms and it also tests the unit as well from what I understand. Its alarm is pretty loud at 85 db. It comes with a 10 year warranty.

So far there have been no false alarms when I am using the stove or oven like I had with the old one. The construction of this unit seems to be pretty solid. For about 10 bucks I would say this is a decent value. They mentioned in the info on this unit that you replace it every ten years.
