The FoodSaver vacuum system is a great system.I purchased this item after purchasing another vacuum system that did not have a powerful enoughvacuum to get out all the air.I was also tired of throwing away food and freezer burn meat.The unit works by using these heavy plastic bags which you can customize size or purchase bags of different sizes.You place your item in the bag and allow enough room for the air to be removed.You then place the bag inside the vacuum channel of the unit which is clearly marked and press down on the lid until the unit is activated.The air will begin to be removed from the bag and once all the air is removed the bag will be sealed.The vacuum on this appliance is very powerful and I do not experience freezer burn or many food going bad.You can also use FoodSaver canisters with the unit and mason jars with a special jar attachment.I have also sealed items in used pickle jars.I think the appliance is a smart purchase and I am very pleased with it.
