Fort Necessity

Fort Necessity is one of the oldest battle grounds in Pennsylvania.It is a small circular fort with a small square structure in the middle.WHile the fort itself is small, there are many things to do.There is a small museum you and your children can walk through to learn about the fort itself, the French, Indian and British armies.There are displays of Indian items like the belts they would trade to declare war or peace.

There is also a small theater inside that shows a short film every so often about the fort and the battle that ensued around the fort. Not far from the fort, within walking distance is the Mount Washington Tavern.Though it was not built when the fort was it still has the furnature of the era and teaches people about what life was like in that time.

Fort Necessity is a great place to go to learn more about the history of Western Pennsylvania.
