Freecom 400 Gb External Hard Drive By Josh Parry on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

When I first saw this product online, I thought it was a brilliant price because of the large storage compacity and I thought it looked like a nice size and style. I took it out of the box to find it was extremely heavy and bulky.. but since it wasn't advertised as portable this wasn't too much of a problem. It worked straight away, but the bundled software wasn't really adequate. The supplied USB 2.0 cable and connection means the transfer rate is extremely quick. The flashing light at the front of the External Hard Drive is extremely useful because it flashes when there are transfers in operation, and stays constant when there is no transfers occuring.

I used it to back up all my photos and music, and saved all my GCSE coursework to the external ard drive, and also to my Laptop, which is where my problems began.

Firstly, the laptop I purchased from the same store broke down, and I had to send it away to get repaired. Obviously, I was quite annoyed, but glad I had a back up on my Shiny new external HD.

However, just 3 months after purchasing said Hard drive, It failed and had to be returned to the store. Obviously it is simply coincidence the laptop and external Hard Drivers failure coincided, but none the less, quite annoying, especially as the external Hard Drive is designed for creating back ups.

Pc world exchanged the Hard drive for me, and I have had no problems with the replacement, and it was done quickly and efficiently.

However, if you are going to use this HD as your ONLY back up, I would advise against it.

Hope this review helps :)
