Freshwater Aquariums Book Good For Beginners By Karen on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

When I first started keeping freshwater fish, I needed some reference material to help me. I found a book called "Freshwater Aquariums" at Petsmart and purchased it. The book deals with the basic setup and maintenance of aquariums, and I found it to be helpful. It is written by David Alderton and it does give a lot of good advice regarding fish keeping. The book has a total of 144 pages, including a Further Reading section, Glossary and Index. At the time I bought it I wished it were a little longer, but there is a lot of info in this small hardback book. It also contains a lot of color photographs to help the new fish keeper along.

The book describes different types of fish, the basic setup of an aquarium, how to stock and maintain your aquarium, and also has a section on fish disease. I was able to glean some really good advice from this book, which came in really handy in helping me when I didn't have the slightest idea what I was doing.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to set up an aquarium and needs some advice.
