Galapagos, September And Sea Lion Pups By d_fourss on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

If you want to see a lot of sea lion pups, September is a great time to visit the Galapagos Islands.

We lucked out with our September timing which was purely accidental. It was the only time we could work in the trip schedule and airline seats using frequent flyer miles.

For those who want to go in the Spring the water is warmer. You can swim and snorkel without a wet suit. The skies are clearer and the days are sunnier and hotter.

But the Fall is the time to go if you want to see newborn sea lion pups. We saw some very young ones on every landing. We could have stood and watched their antics for hours.

We had to maintain a distance of about 10 feet from the sea lions. But nobody told the pups. They would consistently wander up to inspect us. One even took a liking to my sandals. They were definitely a highlight of our trip to the Galapagos Islands.

What a wonderful trip that must have been. I love baby sea lion pups and often have gone to Goat Rock State Beach here just to see the colony. I imagine this trip to the Galapagos will linger in your memory forever.
