Gardening Encyclopedia By Jan Mayrhofer on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

This is the heaviest book in my library! It is a vast and fascinating resource of information on everything to do with growing plants of every kind. And more than this, it is published by Dorling Kindersley, so it goes without saying that the photographs are plenteous and gorgeous. To pick up this book (if you can!) means to be lost for a time in planning and dreaming of the perfect garden, be it ornamental or productive.

The book is arranged into two parts. Part 1: Creating the Garden, which is an in depth guide to garden design and also cultivation and care of plants and even includes instruction on pruning and propagation. Part 2: Maintaining the Garden, provides information on garden tools and materials, the garden environment, plant problems, and anything and everything you need to know to care for your plants.

This is an amazing book and so entertaining for anyone interested in gardening. It is full of inspirational ideas and suggestions and just makes me want to don my gardening gloves and grab a shovel!

Frangipanni, if I were to recommend a comprehensive garden book this would be one of my top 3 picks for my students. It is simply an awesome guide to all things growing.
