Gardening For Dummies By Jennifer Pritt on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Gardening Basics For Dummies by Steven Frowine helped me successfully plant my first flower garden. As embarassing as it is, I have never gardened before and before I read this book, I didn't even know what tools were required to plant a flower.
This book took me through all the steps from start to finish that it takes to plant anything you want sucessfully. Gardening Basics For Dummies has definitions and descriptions of the plants that you can plant in your area in regards to climate and soil types. It explains how to pick your plants, plan your garden, and prepare the soil. It tells how to keep plants healthy and how to care for the particular plants that you chose.
I could go on and on about everything that this book explains to someone trying to plant a garden. It has chapters on vegetable and fruit gardens, organic gardens, pesticides, landscaping, and even special projects. And much more..
The best part about this book, though, is that it gives step by step directions as to what you need to be doing. The gardening book that I had bought before this just had chapters and chapters of small printed words that I didn't even know the definition of. I love Gardening Basics For Dummies, not only because it helped me plant something that actually grew and survived, but because it didn't make me feel stupid while I was reading it. It also has beautiful pictures of different plants and flowers, and has pictures of different landscapes and things that you could do to your own garden.
To any beginner, I would recommend this book highly. It's extremely helpful and like I said, it gives you step by step instructions that are hard to mess up. To any experienced gardener, I think this book could certainly help you sharpen up your skills!

These "for dummies" books are great, I have a few myself!
This sounds wonderful for learning the basics of gardening!
I need to get me this book, thanks for the info.
I haven't seen this one... sounds pretty good.
While I have not seen this one, I have seen a couple of the "for Dummies" books and they have always been pretty well written.
This is one of the books I constantly recommend for beginning gardeners. It is written in clear plain language and offers sound gardening advice.
This is a book I need! I'm always asking my dad about how to plant this or that. Since he grew up on a farm, a lot of his knowledge is based on experience and instinct so it's hard for me to pick that up.
I need this book. I had a hard time with my garden this year, and don't want to screw up on it again next year.
I shall look up this book for my sister-in-law,she needs all the help she can get with gardening.
The "Dummy" books are very helpful.
