By Rae777 onGE CFL Light Bulb: 26 Watt (100W Equivalent), 6-Pk- these are the new bulbs that are supposed to save on your energy costs. There are pros and cons to these light bulbs. These bulbs are 26 watt, using 75% less energy, but they are supposed to put out as much light as a 100 W light bulb. They also stay cooler then regular light bulbs. They also save you $59.00 over the life of the light bulb or about 10 per kwh. There are six light bulbs to a package making them cost about $2.53 per light bulb. These bulbs are supposed to last 8000 hours or five years.
I feel these light bulbs do not put out as much light as they say they do.I am not sure that in the long run people wont just buy more lamps with these bulbs in them to make up for the lack of lighting. The other problem with them is if they break there are recommended procedures to do such as turning off the AC, leaving the room for a while leaving the windows open before cleaning up. There is more information on this on the governments energy star website about how to clean up after one of these is broken and how to dispose properly of these light bulbs when they burn out.

I use these all over my home and property. For brighter light I buy higher lumens. I love them and they've saved me at least 30% off my energy bills. To cut intial costs, I order online by the case.
I use these bulbs and was not aware of the safty issue when they break until I saw something about it on TV recently and it scared the heck out of me. Made me rethink having them in my home.
In the long run, these bulbs do save a lot on electric bill. Even though the bulbs are expensive. Thanks for sharing those knowledge.
This was a very informative. The information you presented is important for anyone who buys these bulbs. Thanks for sharing this valuable information.
I did not know there was so much involved in break situations. I'm clumsy sometimes, these may not be the bulbs for me. However, I want to be green and save money. I guess my husband should handle the bulb changes when we start to change over. Thanks for the information.
These bulbs are expensive to buy but in the long run we still save $$$ on our electricity bills.
Originally we used to hear these new fancy bulb types are supposed to last 7 years or something but now they seem to burn out in 2 or 3.
