I purchased this refrigerator to match the appliances in my new house.I love the exterior look of the refrigerator with the stainless steel doors and black side. The tempature controls and ice/water dispenser are easily accessible on the outside of the door. The filter design is a good design. It allows the user to replace the filter with minimal effort.

My frustrations with this unit is in how it does not efficiently use space in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments. As you see in the picture, the lamp in the refrigerator side takes up an enormous amount of room.It is literally an entire fixture at the top.I have never seen a light in a refrigerator take up as much room.

The freezer compartment space could also be better utilized. You cannot over-stuff the shelves without falling.

I really didn't know how much I liked how my old Kenmore side-by-side was laid out.

Update On Apr 24, 2008: There is an alarm that beeps when either door has been open too long (temperature drop). This is handy if a kid has forgot to close the door OR if you spend too much time wondering what to eat/drink.

I love a side by side and agree that not all are laid out to the best standards. I love the look of stainless but I am scared off because of all the fingers prints. Do you have a problem with them on this fridge or is it the kind that resists finger prints?

The finger prints haven't been too much of a problem. In fact, I think the stainless does a better job against the finger prints than a glossy black finish. Plus I have never been a fan of magnets on the frig, thankfully magnets don't stick to stainless.

I can't believe how big the light is. I was shocked to see how much room it takes up.

it sure sounds like a frustrating experience. Good space utilization is key with a refridgerator.

The light is so big because they want you to see what you are grabbing when you get those late night cravings!! haha jk :o) It's been my dream to own a refrigerator with a water and ice cube dispenser on the outside. Hopefully one day I'll get to live it. :o) GE is a great brand although sorry to hear you are having some spacing problems.

What good information to help us know what to watch out for when we go fridge shopping (perish the thought). At the price I sure would have expected good design. A lesson to us all in being thoughtful and careful when we look.

I agree, I have never seen a light in a refrigerator that big, or placed in that position where it is so much in the way!

Poor use of space in this one. I think I'm going to buy a French door refrigerator rather than a side by side. You get so much more usable refrigerator space with them. Stainless is a good choice in an exterior, esp. if you can find it in a brushed stainless which resists marks.

Water in the door is my favorite little luxury. I am sorry that this doesn't seem to offer enough freezer space.
